The pyramids of Egypt are typically cinematographic elements, due to their perfect geometrical shapes and imposing sizes. What's more mysterious than a 150m high monument built by a 4500 year old civilization? All the elements are there for the cinema to seize these monuments scattered all over Egypt, a further argument in favor of their uses in the film industry.
There is therefore a very large number of films with at least one Egyptian pyramid. Of course, it is the famous pyramid of Khufu which is by far the most shown on the screen, but that of Djoser is also not bad, because it is less known, it is more original since in degrees, and especially it was built by a man somewhat fascinating, the famous Imhotep.
From a diversity of scenarii point of view, we are quite far from what we can find on other monuments of the world. For example, the movies about Christ the Redeemer in Rio or those on the Forbidden City of Beijing, are much more original. On the contrary, the pyramids of Egypt are always the subject of the same film, almost: Archaeologists discover a new pyramid or a mysterious passage in an existing pyramid and awaken an old God who begins to chase them in the form of 'a mummy. That's all, it's over. You have the scenario of a big name of these films. Something else ?
Here is a list of some films in which the pyramids of Egypt appear. They are sometimes at the center of the story, sometimes in the periphery, but their presence is always visible.
