The Commemorative Medal "Eiffel Tower" is a symbolic souvenir object that was distributed in 1889 to all those involved in the construction of the monument. His strike was decided on March 16, 1889, a few days before the official inauguration of the tower, which took place on the 31st. It was a proposal of Mr. Paul Viguier, followed by a large number of colleagues, all members of the Council. The proposal read as follows:
The Council, considering that the city of Paris is interested in honoring those who have contributed to the completion of the Eiffel Tower, deliberates:
Article 1. - A medal of large module bearing the effigy of the Tower of 300 meters, the arms of the city, and, in relief, the names of the recipients, will be struck at the expense of the City and surrender, the day of the inauguration, to all the workers who will have, since March 1, 1889 until the completion of the work, worked personally, in a continuous and manual way, in the assembly and the completion of the work on the site of the Universal Exhibition.
Art. 2. - Silver coins will be awarded exclusively, ie: 1st A medal to Mr. Eiffel, engineer-builder of the Tower; 2nd A medal for the airfield foreman; 3rd A medal for each of the manual workers in the yard who worked until full completion. The Council Office is responsible for drawing up, on the instructions of the manufacturer, and after checking by the Directorate-General for the works of the Exhibition, the list of rights holders.
Art. 3. - Bronze medals, as a commemoration, may be distributed by the Office.
